Buchanan St., Lafayette, LA 70501 MEET THE 2026 DANCELAB CHOREOGRAPHER COHORT RENEKA MOORE | Exposed Facade Native to St. Mary Parish, Reneka Moore is a multidisciplinary creative whose work spans fashion, acting, dance, and entertainment. She is the founder of Opulent Manner, a clothing and wardrobe consulting agency, and co-owner of The Allure For Moore, a production and event planning company that connects local creatives through its downtown Lafayette content studio. Exposed Facade explores the tension between conformity and individuality, capturing the struggle of breaking free from learned behaviors and expectations to reclaim or discover one's true self. Performers: Gigi Chiasson & Debonaire Williams ALEXIS LANDRY | Savior Alexis Landry is a Lafayette-based dancer and choreographer with over 17 years of dance experience and a BFA in Dance from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her artistic practice explores the intersection of artistry and athleticism, using movement to examine human emotion, relationships, and lived experiences. Savior explores the complexities of a savior complex, examining the emotional and physical toll of attempting to rescue others at the expense of one's own well-being. Through movement, the work presents the perspectives of both the "savior" and the "saved," revealing how even well-intentioned acts can lead to codependency, resentment, and burnout. Performers: Alexis Landry & Brice Rue BRICE RUE | La Danse des Ombres Brice Rue is a Lafayette-based dancer and choreographer who earned his Bachelor's degree in Dance from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Rooted in academic research, his choreographic practice uses abstraction to explore how movement can communicate emotions, concepts, and ideas while leaving room for individual interpretation. Inspired by the umbra and penumbra of shadows, La Danse des Ombres explores clarity and obscurity through movement, imagining how a shadow might move if it had a personality of its own. Performers: Dasia Adah, Ava Chatelain & Alexis Landry GINA ASWELL | Contretemps (Work in Progress) Gina Aswell is a dancer, choreographer, and educator who began her training with Hebert Dancentre and Lafayette Ballet Theatre. She studied at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, earned her BFA from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and completed her MFA in Choreography at Wilson College in 2026. An adjunct professor at UL Lafayette, Gina has taught at Basin Arts since its founding and received ArtSpark Awards in 2019 and 2026. Contretemps is a contemporary ballet exploring the push and pull of life in Acadiana: the need to escape the storms and the desire to return to family and community. Blending ballet and modern dance with elements of Zydeco and Cajun traditions, the work celebrates the region's culture through movement and music by the Magnolia Sisters. This work-in-progress will be further developed and presented as part of the Acadiana Center for the Arts Spotlight Series. Performers: Maddilyn Cashio, Courtney Doyle & Shelby Moore ABOUT DANCELAB Basin Arts' DanceLab is a seasonal residency program supporting emerging and established choreographers from Acadiana and beyond.
