CULTURE NEWS

  • Plans for the Louisiana Music Museum are moving forward as construction begins in late spring inside a former downtown hardware store integrated with the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Organizers have raised about 70% (nearly met their goal) of funds and aim to preserve musical history for future generations.  KATC
  • At 5 p.m. today, the Acadiana Center for the Arts hosts a free recital featuring works by Black composers as part of the Art Walk, with a jazz set and a performance by Susie Garcia (a retired UL Lafayette music professor) sponsored by the Lafayette Area Music Teachers Association.  The Current

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette Parish Schools superintendent Francis Touchet got a 28% pay raise (adding $65,000 to bring his salary to $300,000) approved by the school board to run through 2029. The board praised his work in improving facilities, safety, and community communication.  News 15

HEALTH NEWS

  • FMOL Health moved its advanced electrophysiology lab to the Heart Hospital in Lafayette, where it will treat atrial fibrillation. The 3,600 sqft lab—built by Moliere Chappuis Architects and Kent Design Build—opened yesterday as part of the Advancing Acadiana initiative.  BY Local News
  • AMG Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital held its grand opening celebration on Republic Avenue in the Hub City to become the largest inpatient rehab hospital in the area. It will serve patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries + other conditions.  News 15

  • The Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team won 85-79 over ULM to complete a sweep + the women's team lost 61-51 after a late comeback by ULM. The contests were held in Lafayette before local fans.  News 15
