Louisiana saw jobless claims rise last week from 862 to 892 as the U.S. Department of Labor noted a national total of 208,000 claims, with some states showing larger shifts (Georgia up 161.9% and Delaware down 55.5%).

Health inspectors cited sanitation and plumbing problems at two Lafayette Parish restaurants (Dec.

29 to Jan. 5). They said the issues may require improved safety measures to protect diners.
