  • Harley Dupre, a Southside High biology teacher, was named a finalist for the Education All-Stars awards (presented by Love Our Schools) and will be honored during UL Lafayette’s men’s basketball game on Feb. 7. She builds strong bonds with her students that help them exceed expectations.  The Advocate
  • Teacher Emily Weber at Edgar Martin Middle is a finalist for the Education All-Stars award for creating a classroom where students are encouraged to express themselves and take risks. She will be honored at UL Lafayette's men's basketball game on Feb. 7 (winners announced at halftime).  The Advocate
  • Math teacher Mark Mouton from Carencro Middle School (a finalist among three early-career educators) was named for the Education All-Stars award and will be honored during UL Lafayette’s men's basketball game on Feb. 7. He is known for nurturing students through both math and life skills.  The Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New data shows Louisiana’s greenhouse gas emissions slightly declined over recent years even as national totals rose, due to improved efficiency in power generation and industry. Experts warn the figures should be viewed with caution amid ongoing industrial investments — including new petrochemical and LNG projects.  The Advocate

  • De'Von Warren, a 6-foot-8 forward at Turlings Catholic, reached 1,000 career points on December 8 after returning from knee surgery. He joined three others in school history this senior season.  KATC
