BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pamplona Tapas Bar’s owners will debut Gravy in the vacated Pat’s Downtown space by March 1. The new lunch spot aims to honor Pat’s legacy and may add a cocktail lounge later if business is strong.  The Advocate
  • Iberia Parish-based Tabasco maker McIlhenny Co. named Adam Graves as its new CEO last week. Graves (a Nestle USA veteran) will lead the company as it plans to grow its global offerings.  The Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • This April, Festival International de Louisiane turns 40 and will host a five-day event featuring international music, art, and food vendors in downtown Lafayette. The free festival includes children’s activities (held at Cathedral Carmel School) and a parade of French stiltwalkers from April 22-26.  Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission
  • The tribute record 'A Tribute to the King of Zydeco' recorded in Acadiana and featuring local acts plus the Rolling Stones won the Grammy for Best Regional Roots record on January 30 at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds benefited the Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship Fund at UL during his centennial celebrations.  The Current

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette Parish School System will host two events on Thursday, Feb. 5 to boost literacy and healthy eating. First graders will receive books during author visits at Milton, Green T. Lindon, and Ernest Gallet Elementary Schools, while Martial Billeaud Elementary will serve the winning cook-off meal from 10:50–11:50 a.m.  BY Local News
  • New cameras have been installed in 124 special education classrooms in Lafayette Parish as part of a law to protect students & teachers during class time, and although they are not actively monitored, parents can ask for footage if unusual incidents occur.  News 15
  • Mireille Mouton, a longtime English teacher at Carencro Middle, was named a finalist for the Education All-Stars award by Love Our Schools. She and fellow finalists (including her son) will be honored during the UL Lafayette men’s basketball game on Feb. 7.  The Advocate
  • Britney Bonnet-Taylor (Acadian Middle teacher) was named a finalist for the Education All-Stars awards and will be honored during UL Lafayette’s men’s basketball game on Feb. 7.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government will begin placing barricades along the downtown parade route on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 8:00 a.m. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes as Public Works and police secure safety during multiple Mardi Gras parades (with cleanup after each event).  BY Local News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Costco is recalling mini beignets that may contain undeclared tree nuts, sold from Jan. 16 to Jan. 30 in several states including Louisiana. Shoppers with nut allergies should check their purchases before use — the recall aims to prevent severe reactions.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center is set to spend $100M to add about 20 inpatient beds, expand its emergency department, and build a new electrophysiology lab + upgrade Womens and Childrens facilities with private NICU suites and a new chapel to improve patient care.  The Advocate

  • Freshman Kennedy and redshirt sophomore Gabbie Stutes are playing outfield for the Cajuns this season in Louisiana softball, reuniting as sisters who once won a state championship. Their grandmother and extended *family* cheer them on in every game.  KATC
