  • The Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center is asking for help to find the owner of a donkey picked up on the 1400 block of Wilturner Road in Duson; it is holding the animal for 10 days before it may be put up for adoption. Contact the shelter at (337-291-5644).  The Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • The tribute album 'A Tribute to the King of Zydeco' won a Grammy for Best Regional Roots Music Album during a ceremony in Hollywood; its sales profits will fund the new Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship (at UL Lafayette).  News 15
  • Lafayette community held a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall Tuesday to mark 100 years of honoring Black history. The event featured speeches and performances aimed at preserving heritage & sparking dialogue on progress for future generations.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Mason DeNux of Comeaux High is one of three finalists for the Education All-Stars award and will be honored during UL Lafayette’s men’s basketball game on Feb. 7 (recognizing his role in health occupations, world geography, and student mentorship).  The Advocate
  • Teacher Emily Benoit at Comeaux High, a sponsor for student council and swim team, was named a finalist for the Education All Star Awards because she builds student confidence; she will be honored at UL Lafayette’s men’s basketball game on Saturday (Feb. 7).  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The closure of Taylor Street in downtown Lafayette will continue until Feb. 11 as crews work on utility upgrades for the Hotel Lafayette project + motorists are advised to follow detour routes on E. Vermilion, Polk, E. Congress, Garfield Street, and Lee Avenue.  The Advocate
