- ➤ Son of a Texan at 717 Lee Ave. sells premium selvedge denim jeans made on traditional looms. Owners Sky and Katrena King opened the store last year to offer raw and pre-treated denim with a nod to wartime workwear *inspired by heritage*. The Advocate

- ➤ Kindergarteners at J. Wallace James Elementary School chased teachers in chicken costumes during their annual Chicken Chase today for Mardi Gras; children also crafted cone hats and vests to celebrate local heritage + enjoy a playful tradition. KATC
- ➤ A 12th-grader from Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana became one of 22 national finalists in the $25K Cox Mobile Scholarship contest after her cell phone case design was celebrated at the club on Thursday, Feb. 12; local voters can cast their vote online until Friday, Feb. 28. KATC
- ➤ LPSS unveiled renderings for a new school that will merge Paul Breaux Middle School, JW Faulk Elementary and Dr. Raphael Baranco Elementary into one building at the current Faulk campus after a September vote supported the consolidation (plans call for work to start soon). KATC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ During Black History Month, civic leaders in Lafayette reflected on historic milestones and ongoing challenges in achieving fair representation. They stressed the need for continued community engagement to ensure government serves all residents. KATC
- ➤ LCG announced that on Tuesday, Feb. 17 transit services, City-Parish offices and PARC programming will be suspended while the compost facility at 400 Dugas Road will be closed for Mardi Gras — garbage and recycling collections will run as normal. Normal transit services resume on Wednesday, Feb. 18. KATC
