COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette Police Department has added two Clydesdale horses, Bud and Mo, to its mounted patrol unit for Mardi Gras parades. The horses will boost crowd control and community engagement, and a third is expected soon (after months of training).  KATC
  • Funeral services for Father Gary, who died Feb. 12 at Calcutta house, will include visitation at St. Edmond Catholic Church on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. (with a vigil at 6:00 p.m.) and a Mass of Christian Burial led by Bishop Deshotel on Friday at 11:00 a.m.  KATC
  • At 96, Harris Baudoin continues managing roofing operations at Pellerin & Wallace Inc., starting his day at 5 a.m. and sharing decades of local expertise, while the company will host a gathering at its Lafayette office later in February to celebrate his birthday.  The Advocate

  • Wild Child Wines now mixes food with its wine, adding pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and snacks after six years of growth. The downtown shop at 210 E. Vermilion St offers a popular Friday lunch to attract more locals.  The Advocate

  • Lafayette Public Library celebrated the winners of its 100 Book Club challenge when 178 local readers, including 70 children (ages 6 to 12), logged 38,182 books in 2025 and received medals, toys, and coffee mugs at South Regional Library on Feb. 9.  The Daily Advertiser
  • UL Lafayette’s Presidential Search Committee will consider 12 candidates when meeting Thursday in Baton Rouge to choose semifinalists after President Savoie’s departure and mounting financial challenges (the new president will address a $25 million deficit). Finalist interviews are set for Feb. 23-24, with a system review on Feb. 27.  The Advocate

  • The Broussard (Youngsville) Connector, opened in June 2025, is easing regional travel as officials and drivers assess its impact linking West Fairfield Road with Youngsville Highway.  BY Local News

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital hosted its annual Pediatric Mardi Gras Parade today, with staff decorating floats and handing out beads, toys, and Mardi Gras throws to patients and families in the hospital units.  KATC

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU women's basketball will play two SEC games this week as they travel to face Ole Miss at 8 p.m. CT Thursday at SJB Pavilion in Oxford + return home Sunday at 3 p.m. CT against Missouri at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Louisiana softball will face Florida State at 5:00 p.m. today at JoAnne Graf Field at Seminole Softball Complex in Tallahassee. The Ragin’ Cajuns, riding momentum from a recent 23-0 run rule win, will be broadcast on ACC Network+ with ESPN+ streaming.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Lafayette PARC will host its first ever Pickleball Spring Classic tournament on Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 a.m. at Thomas and Dupuis Recreation Centers (venue changed from Comeaux Recreation Center) with registrations open through Feb. 28.  City of Lafayette
  • PARC has moved its first-ever Pickleball Spring Classic from Comeaux Recreation Center to Thomas and Dupuis Recreation Centers because of maintenance work. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 a.m. and registration is open until Feb. 28.  KATC
  • Acadiana high school girls' basketball playoffs are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. in several divisions — Division I games feature Southside at South Lafourche and Bossier at Iota, with other contests across Divisions II, III, and IV scheduled.  The Advocate
  • Former UL basketball star Bo Lamar died Sunday evening at 74 after a lengthy illness in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. His notable career from 1969 to 1973 earned him the nickname (our Pistol) and left a lasting impact on local sports.  The Advocate
