- ➤ On Saturday, hundreds gathered in Northside for the 22nd annual African American Heritage Parade that marched along Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Parkway, down West Willow Street and ended at the Clifton Chenier Center — celebrating Black History Month. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Andrea Robert, dean of middle school at Willow Charter Academy, earned a prestigious education award for boosting math scores at the school, and her work prompted a visit from State Superintendent of Schools (Cade Brumley) last week. News 15
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Conservation students learned about preserving natural habitats on Friday, Feb. 27 at Moncus Park (part of a Louisiana Wildlife Federation program) where experts from the Acadiana Native Plant Project and the Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association taught conservation methods. News 15
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the $750 million 700-megawatt Kindle Magnolia Power Generating Station opened south of Plaquemine to bring affordable electricity to over 500,000 homes. Officials said the facility will serve six rural utility cooperatives and boost local economic development (over 400 jobs have been created so far). The Daily Advertiser
