COMMUNITY NEWS

  • JD Bank has named Chris Credeur as manager vice president, commercial lender at its Lafayette office—he will build business relationships using his experience from the credit analysis department where he worked since 2015. Five local honorees were inducted into the Opelousas General Health System Hall of Fame at the seventh annual gala, with a special committee recognizing achievements including posthumous awards.  The Advocate
  • On Wednesday morning, members of Philadelphia Christian Church in North Lafayette gave out over 2,000 free plate lunches for Purim that included barbecue chicken, red beans and rice, Hawaiian rolls, and brownie bites. Volunteers started early to prepare the meals—and church leaders said the event will return each March.  KATC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Omnium Circus is coming to the Heymann Performing Arts Center on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. with a lineup of multi-abled artists including deaf dancer Malik Paris who uses American Sign Language and live audio descriptions—over 25% of its performers and 40% of its staff are from the disability community.  News 15
  • Artmosphere Bistro in downtown Lafayette now has new owners who plan to bring back live music—this venue has a long history with liquor license issues and classification challenges and continues to be a local favorite. The new owners have not set a reopening date yet.  News 15
  • Lafayette will host two St. Patrick’s Day events this weekend—at the Celtic Bayou Festival, people will enjoy live Irish and Celtic music along with a pub crawl starting Friday from the Grouse Room at Warehouse 535, while Downtown Lafayette holds Patty in the Parc on Saturday with live acts by Dustin Sonnier, Wayne Toups and DJ Digital. Advance tickets cost $20 and door prices are $25, with special rates for children.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Louisiana Community College will host several career fairs this spring to give students, alumni (and the public) a chance to meet employers in fields like healthcare, arts and skilled trades. The events are set for campuses in Abbeville on March 18, Opelousas on March 24, Lafayette on April 2 and 8, and New Iberia on April 3.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Auditors found that the Lafayette Parish School System split projects to keep them under the $250,000 bidding threshold—awarding no‐bid contracts to Bergeron’s Metal Buildings for work at local schools. The audit report will be discussed at the school board meeting tonight as officials defend the approach, saying it saves money and speeds up work.  News 15

  • The St. Thomas More Cougars boys' basketball team moved to the title game after beating the John Curtis Patriots 46—44, marking their 10th straight Final Four appearance. John Luke Bourque hit the game-winning shot in the final moments as multiple lead changes kept the contest close.  News 15
