- ➤ The Big Fat Clothing Swap returns on Saturday, April 5 at Acadiana Center for the Arts as a free, inclusive event for Lafayette residents in sizes XL and above. Donations are now accepted at several Lafayette drop-off sites—712 Saint Louis Street, 600 Grassy Meadows Lane, 129 Pinion Circle, and 110 Cedar Mound Lane—and donors earn an extra hour of early shopping at 12:00 p.m. KATC
- ➤ The Lafayette Public Library Board voted unanimously on Monday to move forward with the Northeast Regional Library after community members and leaders voiced strong support. - ➤ Don’s Seafood and Steakhouse, which served the community since 1934, is being torn down to make way for a new 83-room hotel. The $20 million project will add an outdoor pool, bar, restaurant and event space while creating up to 100 jobs—and keeping the historic sign to preserve local memories. KATC
- ➤ The McIlhenny Company from Avery Island won the International Achievement Award for boosting Lafayette’s global reputation through its famous Tabasco hot sauce — the award honors the company’s role in drawing international recognition to our community. News 15
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana executed Jessie Hoffman Jr using nitrogen gas Tuesday evening at Angola for the 1996 murder of Mary 'Molly' Elliott, marking the first time in 15 years the state used this method — officials and the U.S. Supreme Court supported the process after his appeals were denied. News 15
- ➤ Lafayette PD detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment on Louisiana Avenue on March 17, seizing 856 fentanyl pills valued at about $68,000 along with $2,590 in cash and a 9mm pistol, and suspect Tanakous Onezine, 37, was booked at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges including drug distribution and illegal weapon carrying—officials say the bust will help disrupt the local drug trade. - ➤ Milton residents met on Tuesday, March 18 to hear Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet update them on the Homewood Detention Project, which will address drainage issues by connecting Ile De Cannes and Homewood to the Vermilion River. The mayor said remaining work will be adjusted to fit within $7 million & construction will resume in 2026 with competitive bidding and schedule details announced before work begins. News 15
