- ➤ A ceremony in Carencro will honor the lives of Louis Senegal and Antoine Domingue—both lynched in 1896 and 1906—with a historical marker being installed at the Welcome Center, 409 Veterans Dr. The event will take place Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. and is hosted by Move the Mindset and the Lafayette Parish Community Remembrance Project. - ➤ Ground Pat’i Bar & Grill will reopen in a new space at 2303 Johnston St. Owner Rick Cambre said the restaurant closed last year when its lease ended on Kaliste Saloom Road — the building is now owned by Glenn and Cheri Murphree. The Advocate

- ➤ Lafayette High librarian extraordinaire Amanda Blanco was named Louisiana School Librarian of the Year by the Louisiana Library Association—she made the library a safe, welcoming space for students. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette’s City and Parish Councils will meet this week to approve zoning changes along major corridors and allocate more than $430,000 from opioid settlement funds—$333,000 for judicial expenses and over $100,000 for a study at UL. The councils will also decide on a FEMA-funded generator for Dupuis Recreation Center, add extra resource officers at a local charter school and use a HUD grant to upgrade Martin Luther King Recreation Center into a disaster response hub. - ➤ Today the Lafayette City-Parish Council meets to review a proposal using $1.4 million in HUD funds to upgrade the MLK Recreation Center for emergency use and to hire POST-certified officers at three Lafayette Renaissance Charter schools—the council will also discuss transferring $250,000 for road projects and allocating $434,576 from opioid settlement funds to support local response efforts. - ➤ Downtown Lafayette will add 20 new removable bollards to the 50 installed in 2022 as it prepares for a major music festival. City officials will close five streets from Monday, March 24 through Friday, April 4 to help secure the area—police hold special keys that lock and unlock the bollards for safety. KATC
