COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A housing rehabilitation program in Lafayette Parish has helped income-qualifying homeowners like Cynthia Noel revitalize their houses; her home received a new roof, central AC, updated bathroom cabinets and more with grant and loan support. The program helps residents fix code issues and meet other needs—especially for elderly and disabled neighbors—to keep them in their community.  KATC

CRIME NEWS

  • The hearing for Chad Credeur—accused of triple murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm and criminal trespassing—has been rescheduled for July 14 pending a final doctor’s report on his sanity review.  KATC
  • Two teenagers Khloe Somerville aged 16 and Natalie Nelson aged 15 were last seen in a dark gray 2020 Kia Optima—license plate LA 302HHV—around 10 p.m. on March 22 in Lafayette and have not been heard from since early Sunday morning, with police reporting they could be in the Shreveport area.  KATC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Entergy wants to build three new natural gas power plants to power Meta’s $10 billion data center in northeast Louisiana. On Tuesday, advocacy groups argued that Meta should join the case to answer questions about job creation, clean energy and power use, while Entergy said state law does not require Meta to participate—raising concerns that the project may affect many power customers.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lafayette Parish School System announced a new plan that will offer high school students more vocational training options focused on career and technical education. Superintendent Francis Touchet shared details during a tour of Acadiana High and David Thibodeaux STEM Academy with state officials.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ruled that a lawsuit alleging that Library Board president Robert Judge + Lafayette City-Parish Government violated two citizens’ First Amendment rights will go forward. The suit claims that Judge's policies at January public meetings, which include removing speakers without clear definitions, chill protected free speech.  KATC
  • Lafayette Consolidated Government is hosting a Debris Drop-Off Day on March 29 from 8 a.m. to noon at Brown Park and Robicheaux Center for Lafayette residents to dispose of bulky waste like old furniture, appliances, and construction debris. Excluded items include batteries, chemicals, and compressed gas cylinders—residents must show I.D. and help unload items to participate.  The Daily Advertiser
