ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Gulf Coast rose to $3.60 per gallon on Monday from $3.41 the previous week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Analysts expect prices to increase by 20 to 30 cents per gallon as seasonal demand and global unrest drive market volatility.  The Daily Advertiser

  • Mel Buchanan, a Louisiana mom, followed her doctor’s advice to get a colonoscopy after turning 45, which detected stage III colon cancer during routine screening.   • Teurlings Catholic’s Briley LeBouef was named Acadiana Advocate’s All-Metro Star of Stars Girls Soccer MVP and Player of the Year after she scored a team-high 24 goals (with 11 assists) during a season that saw the Rebels reach the Division II state championship.  The Advocate
  • UL softball lost 7-5 Sunday to UL Monroe in a road series sweep that dropped the Cajuns to 20-16 overall & 3-6 in Sun Belt play. Key plays early in the game set the pace for the Warhawks’ comeback win.  The Advocate
  • The UL Ragin’ Cajuns avoided a sweep with a 4-0 shutout win over the Warhawks on Sunday at Russo Park. Starter Ty Roman and closer Cody Brasch led the pitching that improved the team's record to 18-10 as they prepare to face McNeese Tuesday at 4 p.m.  The Advocate
  • Teurlings Catholic senior Carson Dwyer scored 35 goals and 10 assists to lead his team to the state championship and receive the Acadiana Advocate’s All-Metro Star of Stars Boys Soccer MVP award.
