COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Carencro residents gathered on March 29 to unveil a historical marker at 409 Veterans Dr. that honors Louis Senegal and Antoine Domingue—two Black men lynched in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; the marker, the first in Lafayette Parish to recognize lynching victims, aims to raise awareness about past racial terror and promote reconciliation.  The Daily Advertiser

  • Ten Eight Concepts closed on the purchase of a two-acre property near 3500 NE Evangeline Thruway in Carencro on Thursday for just under $1 million to open a new Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar that will feature a dedicated to-go area and expanded catering options—designed to speed up delivery service. The site is part of a planned shopping center expansion that will later add a CLB Community Bank office and an 11,000-square-foot addition to the current building.  The Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • Jeremy Black, 51, of Harvey was arrested during a traffic stop on I-10 in Scott when a K9 unit found 2,105 grams of cocaine in his vehicle—his bond is set at $1 million.  News 15
  • A Lafayette man, Troy Alfred, 58, was arrested in St. Martin Parish after he hit and killed 44-year-old Brad Madere on La. 353 near Rookery Road around 8 p.m. Sunday — his breath test showed an alcohol level above the legal limit — and he was booked on charges of driving while impaired and for obstructing view.  The Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Acadiana Symphony Orchestra will host its annual Mad Hatter’s Luncheon & Style Show on April 4 at La Pavillon at Parc in Lafayette, offering a fashion show, silent auction, table & hat decorating contests and a Youth Orchestra performance. All proceeds will benefit the orchestra’s youth and preparatory programs.  KLFY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette High School alumni and friends have one last chance to tour the campus before it is demolished as the new facility opens for the 2025-26 school year. The Lafayette Parish School System will host the LHS Alumni Memory Walk tomorrow from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—visitors must use one of three designated parking areas and pass a security screening.  KLFY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government and Keep Lafayette Beautiful will host a free Paper Shredding Day on April 5 at the Robicheaux Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to noon—residents can safely dispose of up to three kitchen-size bags of sensitive documents to help prevent identity theft.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Gov. Jeff Landry said State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams will run the OMV after Commissioner Dan Casey stepped down last week to spend more time with his grandchildren — a change meant to fix computer outages that delayed service at OMV offices and tag agencies. Adams said he will update the 50-year-old system, and Landry waived late fees on March 21 during a state emergency — a move that lets officials skip a long wait for a new system.  The Advocate
  • Gov. Landry announced that State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams will serve as the new commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles—Dale "Ed" Branch will take over as Fire Marshal and Matthew Boudreaux is named deputy commissioner. Adams plans to modernize the outdated system and will return to his previous role after his service at OMV.  News 15
