- ➤ Cajun FOOLS, a firefighters’ group, held a relay on April 5 to help injured Captain Erik Mannting cover his medical bills, rehabilitation and recovery—Mannting was hurt in a fire on January 1. Firefighters from Broussard, Youngsville and Lafayette took part as food and music filled Apex Training Gym on Young Street in Broussard. BY Local News
- ➤ Fallen Senior Corporal Segus Jolivette was honored at Broussard Sports Complex during the baseball and softball opening ceremony, where his family received a framed jersey with his badge number—his son Asher threw the first pitch in tribute as he recalled playing catch with his dad; he was killed last July during a standoff in Jeanerette. - ➤ Fewer students took TOPS scholarships in 2024, with fewer than 48,000 recipients awarded $270.4 million as rising tuition and stagnant award amounts made the aid less attractive.
