- ➤ The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 21-year-old D'Jacqney Mitchell on Tuesday in Abbeville in connection to an Aug. 26 shooting at the Herod Village Apartments on E Martin Luther King Jr. Drive that left one person dead and another injured—he faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder with a bond set at $750,000. - ➤ Popular Louisiana singer Lauren Daigle — who grew up in Lafayette — will perform at the Youngsville Sports Complex Amphitheater powered by SELCMO on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m., her set is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m., and tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday. - ➤ Louisiana homeowners need to check their insurance policies carefully as the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov 30 — many plans do not cover flood or windstorm damage, and some companies have been noted for claim issues after past hurricanes. - ➤ Jose Francisco Garcia Rodriguez, a 73-year-old Lafayette grandfather from Cuba, was taken by ICE on April 1 while driving to work and spent a week at the Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center in Evangeline Parish before his family said he was released on Monday — he has since returned home. KATC
- ➤ Computer system outages that disrupted driver’s license and registration services since February improved after officials updated the mainframe on Thursday—officials said there have been no outages in recent days. Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency two weeks ago that waived fees and sped up plans for a new software system. The Advocate

- ➤ Lafayette officials are using money from a 2021 opioid settlement to support local programs that treat addiction and help people recover today. The funds include $333,900 for the 15th Judicial District Court and $100,676 for a UL study (they also help fund Judge Valerie Garrett’s recovery program offering medical care, a place to stay and life skills training).
