COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wing Wars of Acadiana will be held on April 12 at Parc International in Lafayette from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the event benefits the Gifting Grace Project to help homeless youth. It will feature a chicken wing cook-off, live music — and children's activities designed to raise funds for local support.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Fourteen-year-old Trevor Rickerson from Lafayette reunited with his wish-makers, Robin and Jim Andrepont, during World Wish Month after they granted his wish in 2023 for him to meet the New Orleans Pelicans. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, Trevor now coaches his high school football and basketball teams and hopes the reunion brings him closer to his dream of a sports career.  KLFY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In Thursday night's meeting, Lafayette Parish School Board approved a new dress code for the 2025—2026 school year that allows blue and black jeans.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Teurlings Drive will be closed from April 16 at 7:00 a.m. to April 18 at 7:00 a.m. for railroad crossing enhancements by Louisiana and Delta Railroad. Detour routes on E. Willow Street, Louisiana Avenue, and E. Alexander Street will remain open—local access is maintained.  City of Lafayette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Newly built homes in Lafayette Parish are staying on the market for 130 days on average through March—four times longer than the 2022 rate, and analyst Bill Bacque of Market Scope Consulting noted that pending deals for new construction increased nearly 9% last month even as inventory grew.  The Advocate
