  • United Way of Acadiana, LA-REC, and partner agencies will host the Second Chance Tuesday Resource Fair on Tuesday, April 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Goodwill Opportunity Campus (2435 W. Congress St.) to help those impacted by the justice system access job, housing and legal aid.  KATC
  • The free Festival of Life will take place at Northgate Mall parking lot on April 18 and 19. The event will offer food, kids’ activities & giveaways while supporting community outreach for all ages.  KATC
  • Our Lady of Lourdes Women's & Children's Hospital hosts its annual NICU Reunion on Sunday, Apr. 19 at Moncus Park from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., where NICU graduates, their families and the care team will reconnect free of charge.  News 15
  • On April 12, Youngsville Police Department won a friendly cookoff against Broussard Police Department at the third annual BYOB Hamburger and Hot Dog Festival in Youngsville — a contest that highlighted community spirit with proceeds donated to both departments.  BY Local News

  • Opportunity Machine is drawing startups back to Lafayette due to improved access to capital, talent, and infrastructure (through LFT Fiber) said director Destin Ortego. The 16-year-old program now supports around 50 teams in tech and research.  The Advocate

  • UL Lafayette Provost Jaimie Hebert will step down on July 1 and return to the math department after serving as interim president following the appointment of new president Ramesh Kolluru. He managed a budget deficit by cutting staff during his tenure.  The Advocate
  • A Lafayette Parish judge has put the closure of Comeaux High School on hold while scheduling a trial to review allegations that the school board broke state open meetings and ethics laws. The legal challenge may delay plans to convert the campus into a new career and technical education center.  News 15

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Termite season in Louisiana is underway as homeowners may soon spot flying swarmers (winged termites), mud tubes and discarded wings. Experts advise scheduling inspections by licensed pest professionals and removing wood and mulch from around homes to reduce the risk of damage.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on US 90 will face alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday through Friday as crews work on the overpass between Albertson Parkway and Young Street — DOTD has not provided a timeline for finishing the work.  News 15
