CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lafayette man and his two daughters have been indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud in a scheme to defraud the Child and Adult Care Food Program—allegedly altering daycare provider statuses to hide false claims that cost at least $400,000. News 15
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Designs for the $10 million Louisiana Music Museum were unveiled for a historic hardware store at South Buchanan and Vermilion. The project will add four galleries, an open dance hall and a 2,000-square-foot addition—groundbreaking is scheduled early next year and the museum will open in mid-2027. KATC
- ➤ Festival International de Louisiane returns to downtown Lafayette from April 23 to April 27 and local artist Kelli Jones will perform with four bands throughout the weekend—showcasing Cajun and country sounds. KATC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, April 21, Girard Park Circle in Lafayette will close until Monday, May 5 to allow a contractor to perform sewer work for the Our Lady of Wisdom Church and Catholic Student Center project. Drivers will use detour routes (E. Lewis Street, Johnston Street, E. St. Mary Boulevard, Girard Park Lane, and Girard Park Drive) while local access is maintained. City of Lafayette
- ➤ The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony on Thursday morning when 24 cadets finished training at the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy. They will now serve with eight South Louisiana agencies (each cadet is prepared in essential policing, state laws, and crisis intervention). KATC
- ➤ On April 13, approximately 700 soldiers from the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Tiger Brigade) were honored at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette during a deployment ceremony. Leaders including Gov. Jeff Landry and Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux praised the soldiers as they prepared to deploy in support of operations in Kosovo and the Horn of Africa. KATC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Affordable health care for Surrey Street neighbors may soon get better as Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center is building a new clinic after buying a property and tearing down a former car dealership at 1400 and 1402 Surrey Street. The new 30000 square foot center will merge two existing clinics to offer medical, dental, mental health and pediatric care (with dental services restarting in July) and will be finished in Summer 2026. - ➤ On Thursday, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team faced South Alabama in Game 1 of their three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Lamson Park, and senior pitcher Tyra Clary was honored on her senior day—helping the team look to extend their 26-game win streak against the Jaguars.
