- ➤ Today, local tattoo shop Be True Tattoos and Piercings held an event offering discounts and raffles to raise money for Hearts of Hope—an organization that supports victims of sexual and physical abuse as well as trauma. - ➤ Lafayette students were honored for their creativity in the 2025 Anti-Litter Poster Contest—announced by Lafayette Parish Government, the Lafayette Parish School System, and the Lafayette Garden Club—with winners from elementary, middle, and high schools earning special awards. The winners’ celebration will be held on May 15 at 5 p.m. at the Parish School Board Office on 202 Rue Iberville in Lafayette. The Daily Advertiser
- ➤ A national group backed by a billionaire will run a TV ad today to support Gov. Jeff Landry’s plan to secure nearly $94 million for a program that gives parents tax dollars for private school tuition – the ad urges lawmakers to fully fund the program amid concerns that it may increase state spending after nearly 40,000 applications were received. - ➤ Louisiana confirmed its first measles case this year on Saturday, April 19th in an unvaccinated adult from the New Orleans region; he is not hospitalized and remains in isolation while health officials trace contacts linked to international travel (experts advise the MMR vaccine for safe and effective protection).
