- ➤ A stray dog ran into a car’s lane near the KATC parking lot on Eraste Landry Road and was picked up and taken for a microchip scan at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center before being brought to the Lafayette Animal Shelter. The shelter said lost dogs are usually found close to home—Lily, a 12-year-old from Jeanette Street, was later claimed—so people know how to help when they find one. KATC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rep. Troy Carter and Rep. Clay Higgins introduced a bill earlier this week that would let the FDA impound and destroy imported seafood found unsafe. The legislation aims to protect consumers and support Louisiana seafood processors—while it must pass a House committee before becoming law. The Advocate
- ➤ Lawmakers in Louisiana are set to debate nearly two dozen bills on carbon capture as local officials and rural residents worry that storing CO2 underground could pollute drinking water and limit property rights. A Senate committee approved a bill that would give locals more input on permits (a move aimed at balancing industrial growth with community safety) and additional hearings are planned for May.
