- ➤ Rayne police arrested Demond Marquise Tenner, 22, on charges including attempted first-degree murder in an Easter Sunday shooting that injured an 18-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man—both of whom drove themselves to the police station after suffering head wounds and were treated at a Lafayette hospital—and officers are still searching for Courtney Kendell Rogers Jr. who is accused of involvement. - ➤ Festival International de Louisiane kicked off yesterday in downtown Lafayette with live performances from Donna the Buffalo and Keith Frank, and opening ceremonies are scheduled for today at 7:30 p.m.—the five-day event runs through April 27 with road closures and parking restrictions in effect. - ➤ E.L. 'Bubba' Henry, who led the Louisiana House during the 1970s and chaired the constitutional convention that updated the state constitution, died Wednesday at 89—his career helped shape key government reforms. The Advocate
- ➤ Tuesday the Lafayette City Council introduced an ordinance to exchange nearly 3.87 miles of Ambassador Caffery Parkway for 3.07 miles of Johnston Street and part of Bertrand Drive so the city can improve pedestrian connectivity — Mayor-President Monique Boulet said the change will let the city widen sidewalks and build connected walking and biking paths with final approval expected in two weeks.
