COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kevin Faulk, a former LSU Tiger and New England Patriot running back, was honored as Carencro’s favorite son for his charitable work and community outreach. Mayor Charlotte Clavier presented him with a key and a welcome sign to mark his contributions to local youth.  KLFY

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lafayette man—Dillon Cormier, 32—was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury on charges of first degree murder, first degree rape, and second degree cruelty to juveniles in connection with the 2022 death of a toddler at a home on Willie Mae Lane where he and his girlfriend Deziree Suttoon were arrested; the charges carry a potential death penalty.  KLFY
  • A Lafayette Parish grand jury indicted Shannon Morris Jr. of Lake Charles on eight counts of first-degree rape — part of a crime spree that spanned Calcasieu, Acadia and other parishes, and he is held without bond while facing additional charges.  News 15
  • A Lafayette man was arrested after agents searched a home on Angelloz Street and found nearly 3.5 lbs. of cocaine, about 2.75 lbs. of marijuana, over 2 lbs. of THC edibles, an AR-15 rifle, and more than $25,000 in cash — Louis Pradier, 49, now faces charges for possession with intent to distribute and other drug and gun charges while being held without bond.  KLFY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service said a River Flood Warning is in effect for the Vermilion River in Lafayette after forecasters detected minor flooding at the Surrey Street gage with water levels of 10.4 feet as of April 25th. Forecasters predict the water will drop below flood stage by today evening — it is expected to recede to 8.2 feet by Wednesday morning while flooding affects Heymann Park off US 90 as the warning remains until Sunday morning.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Louisiana lawmaker is pushing House Bill 674 to change how the ethics board starts investigations by needing a two-thirds vote—attorney Stephen Gelé helped draft the new rules. The law also lets lawmakers have more travel perks while keeping current reporting requirements—watchdog groups fear it might make it harder to probe ethics concerns.  The Advocate
