- ➤ Lafayette Consolidated Government and Lafayette Utilities System launched the 13th Annual Rain Barrel Sale to help residents save water by offering 55-gallon barrels at a reduced rate until May 4—eligible residents in Lafayette and unincorporated parish can buy the first barrel for $44 with additional barrels at $59. The barrels, made from recycled food-grade materials, include features like a removable lid, mesh screen, overflow valve, and spigot to improve stormwater management. City of Lafayette

- ➤ Paul Broussard and his family had their home flooded by high water from last Thursday’s storms and are now staying with relatives as they plan to relocate after repeated floods since 2016 — the dangerous flooding has made living there unsustainable. KLFY

- ➤ KRVS Radio, a nonprofit station owned by UL-Lafayette, is broadcasting live music from Festival International for local and international listeners + the playlist features Cajun, French, and gospel tunes. The station uses both traditional broadcasting and digital tools to bring the festival experience beyond Lafayette. KATC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana lawmakers are considering a new bill to allow gold and silver coins as legal tender, which could update the law passed in 2013 — the change may let the state accept these coins for transactions if the bill passes. Eleven states already use these coins for money — several other states have also looked at similar laws. The Daily Advertiser
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana announced Project M.O.M. today to cut opioid overdoses in new mothers by 80% over the next three years and save about 65 lives per year. The plan will expand successful screening and care practices from 11 hospitals to all 47 birthing facilities and emergency departments—using Medicaid adjustments and opioid funds to support treatment.
