- ➤ Sarah Clement, chief administrative officer with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, was named one of the 20 Under 40 honorees and has called Lafayette home since 2002 after growing up in Shreveport. - ➤ Lafayette residents and local businesses are rallying around Rachel Steen, a special events coordinator diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma who underwent major surgery that left her speech impaired. Pelican Roofing Company has organized a fundraiser—its GoFundMe has raised $13,000 of the $19,000 needed for her reconstructive surgery to restore her facial function and independence. The Advocate

- ➤ On May 1, Lafayette Parish 8th graders attended the Career Ignite Expo at the Martin Luther King Rec Center—speaking with representatives from 70 local businesses and learning about different career paths. They learned what education they will need for future jobs. News 15

- ➤ Lafayette residents and others in the parish are invited to safely dispose of hazardous household items, including chemicals and electronics, on May 31 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 1229 NW Evangeline Thruway (enter from Donlon) to prevent environmental and health risks. City of Lafayette

- ➤ Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order banning sodas and candy purchases with SNAP benefits as part of the Make America Healthy Again movement, but the order must get USDA approval before it takes effect. Lawmakers have advanced bills to limit sugary drinks and ultra-processed foods in schools+ the move aims to boost nutrition statewide. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ Oceans Behavioral Health-Acadiana will build a 2,500-square-foot expansion at 310 Youngsville Highway to add a 62-bed behavioral health hospital for $13.8 million (The Lemoine Co will lead the project). The Advocate
