- ➤ Law enforcement agencies and community members will gather in Lafayette on Thursday evening for the annual Police Memorial Service that honors officers who died in the line of duty. A motorcade will depart from the Lafayette Police Department at 5:30 p.m. — traveling along University Avenue to Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church where the ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. — and drivers should expect traffic delays until 7 p.m. KATC

- ➤ Bonne Vie Macarons received a permit to convert a space at 105 St. Landry St into its new location + Gleason Ledet Construction will manage the $200,000 renovations as the bakery prepares to move in soon. The Advocate

- ➤ Lafayette police said on May 3 that Jonovan Dauphine (30) killed his partner, Samantha Breaux (27), outside the Legends bar on Johnston Street before turning the gun on himself. The Advocate
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra will perform together in their first joint concert — The Music of Shakespeare — on May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The Daily Advertiser
- ➤ Lafayette will host its first ever LEGO convention at Blackham Coliseum on July 26 and 27—tickets cost $14.99 per day and a portion of proceeds will go to Creations for Charity. Professional LEGO artists will display unique models and lead meet and greet sessions while fans enjoy interactive build zones and galleries of life-sized creations. KATC

- ➤ Students at Broadmoor Elementary in Lafayette received a special lunch on May 8 for earning a place on the Principal's List with straight A’s—owner Ema Haq at Bailey’s Tandoori Grill hosted the event for about 70 students. News 15
- ➤ Jadon Johnson launched Athletic Businessmen, a Lafayette summer camp that blends basketball drills with lessons on branding and financial literacy, which will run at the Martin Luther King Center from June 2 to Aug. 1. The camp, limited to 30 campers, offers mentorship from local entrepreneurs—and a free custom camp T-shirt for those who register before May 19. The Daily Advertiser
- ➤ South Louisiana Community College’s Adult Education program helped 234 students earn a HiSET diploma in 2023—24, ranking it second in the state and first among community colleges. Officials said the program offers free HiSET preparation classes and a one-time $500 Chancellor’s HiSET Scholarship to support students’ college and career goals. KATC

- ➤ Heavy rain flooded yards along Orange Street in Lafayette as water rushed up doorsteps and residents said the drainage system could not keep up. Neighbors reported that speeding drivers made matters worse by pushing water into homes — they warn that if these issues are not fixed another storm could lead to more damage. KATC

- ➤ Acadian Ambulance honored Flight RN Joannie Sanchez and EMT Alison Cagle as its 2025 Medics of the Year at an annual luncheon held at the Cajundome in Lafayette—drawing over 1,100 guests by selecting them from 32 candidates for their strong commitment to patient care.
