ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A commercial fire broke out Monday morning at 11:33 a.m. in Carencro on Thoroughbred Drive in Lafayette Parish, and no one was hurt as multiple fire departments responded after fumes from cleaning car parts ignited a drill.  KATC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local business professionals can join several networking events this week in Lafayette, Youngsville & Broussard. Starting today, free sessions at the City Club at River Ranch, meetings at the Petroleum Club, and a luncheon at First Assembly Church offer insights on labor updates and business growth.  BY Local News
  • Logan Farms Honey Glazed Hams and Market Café, a mid-city staple known for its honey glazed hams and poboys (operating since the late 1980s), will close on July 31 at the South College Center. Customers are advised to redeem their gift cards before the closure.  The Advocate
  • Accelerate Women's Entrepreneurship will offer sessions for local women entrepreneurs on three consecutive Tuesdays in May. Kevin Guillory from LEED Center and Dr. Dionne Davis from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette discussed the program on MidDay with Darla to help strengthen local businesses and communities.  News 15

  • Lafayette Travel announced on Saturday that it will showcase Acadiana food, music & heritage at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany, France before nearly 1 million visitors. Louis Michot and SWAMP MAGIC will perform from Aug. 3–6 as part of the expanded tourism initiative.  The Daily Advertiser

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Minor flooding is affecting parts of Bayou Vermilion near Carencro and the Vermilion River at Lafayette; the Carencro area will see water cresting at 17.4 feet (forecast) this afternoon before falling below flood stage nearly Wednesday morning, and the Lafayette area will experience minor flooding until late Friday evening.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on I-49 between St. Landry and Lafayette parishes face rough commutes today as DOTD crews mill nearly nine miles of roadway for resurfacing — heavy rains and lane closures from Exit 7 to Exit 4 in Carencro add to delays and caution is urged.  KATC
  • The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is now accepting public comment on a proposed recreational alligator season set for Oct. 1-31, with comments due by June 26 at the office on Dulles Drive in Lafayette. The season will use a lottery system available to Louisiana residents only.  KATC

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2026, Ochsner Lafayette General and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette launched an accelerated nursing program to fast-track students into patient care roles & cover full tuition. Participants gain hands-on clinical training and commit to working with Ochsner after graduation.  KATC

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Ten new restaurants have opened in Lafayette this year, offering a mix of Cajun comfort and international flavors. Locals can try dishes at GravyGravy and Off The Hook, enjoy brunch at Bistrology, experience pickleball at SMASH, or choose quick service at Dunkin’ in revitalized shopping hubs.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Between May 7 and May 9, 2026, 132 area athletes competed at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium at the LHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Meet, with Teurlings Catholic girls winning the Class 4A team state championship.   • The 2026 high school baseball season ended for 29 Lafayette-area teams on May 11, with none reaching the state championships in Sulphur. Several teams advanced deep into playoffs before losing in the semifinals and quarterfinals.  The Daily Advertiser
