ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette firefighters responded to a gas leak at Himbola Manor Apartments on May 12 at 8:15 p.m. when tenants reported a smell of gas and discovered a cracked pipe, and Atmos Energy shut off the main gas line and will restore gas service once repairs are inspected. News 15

- ➤ Audra Collins, a Southside High senior in Broussard, graduated with a 4.3 GPA after 14 years of perfect attendance—2,500 consecutive school days—and will attend Louisiana Tech this fall to study biology. The Daily Advertiser
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials extended the flood warning for the Vermilion River in Lafayette because minor flooding continues as the river remained near 12 feet on May 12—above the 10-foot flood stage. They expect the water to stay high until next weekend, so residents should stay alert. News 15
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Miles Perret Cancer Services will launch the annual Games of Acadiana on May 31 with a Birthday Bash Kickoff held behind Bayou Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature a two-week virtual scavenger hunt and a 16-day statewide hunt offering missions and prizes — including a $10,000 grand prize — to boost support for its cancer services. - ➤ Acadian Ambulance honored Flight Nurse Joannie Sanchez and EMT Alison Cagle as the 2025 Medics of the Year at a luncheon held at the Cajundome in Lafayette on May 9.
