- ➤ Firefighters from Scott, Carencro, and Duson responded at 8:15 a.m. Monday to a house fire on Mills Street in Scott caused by an electrical malfunction—damage affected the bedroom and kitchen and a family pet lost its life while the home was unoccupied. The Advocate
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana Entrepreneurship and Economic Development will launch its Accelerate Women’s Entrepreneurship program later this month for business owners and those with a business idea who want to become full-time entrepreneurs. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 20, May 27 and June 3 and applications must be submitted by May 16, with walk-ups welcomed on May 20 if space is available for a cost of $25. The Advocate

- ➤ St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Phillip K. Boutte, 45, on Monday in Sunset for allegedly making psychedelic drugs in his home and fleeing when officers arrived—deputies seized 14 ounces of DMT, five grams of meth, small amounts of other drugs and a handgun. The Advocate

- ➤ Louisiana Folk Roots is set to hold summer camps for kids ages 8 to 14 in Eunice, Lafayette and Opelousas this June and July to teach Cajun and Zydeco music along with French singing, instrument lessons, dancing and crafts. Campers will attend from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday—ending with a live music showcase and dance party—while tuition covers meals, art supplies and a camp shirt. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will hold its Spring 2025 Commencement ceremonies on May 16 and May 17 at the Cajundome and Cajundome Convention Center to honor graduates from eight academic colleges.
