EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tulane University researchers found that over half of Louisiana children from low-income families began kindergarten without basic reading skills and only 20% caught up by third grade—showing that children who attended pre-K were twice as likely to be school-ready. - ➤ Lafayette City Council and Parish Council affirmed improvements in LCG’s finances in its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2024 (released May 5). - ➤ The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette Consolidated Government are in a dispute over jail fees—with claims dating back to 2019 that the parish paid more than it was required for inmate housing, medical care, feeding, and clothing.
