- ➤ Francois Poupart, owner of Poupart Bakery, died at 91. He opened his French bakery in 1967 and built a cherished legacy in Lafayette’s culinary scene — locals continue to honor his impact. News 15
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teurlings Catholic High School held a graduation ceremony Monday evening at the Cajundome where high school seniors across Acadiana celebrated their achievements (graduates now look forward to summer recreation and next steps). News 15
- ➤ Lafayette Parish School System is recruiting bus drivers by offering free CDL training + an increase of about $4,000 in salaries ahead of the new school year. The program requires a high school diploma and training will run June 27-29. KATC
- ➤ Comeaux High seniors received their diplomas on Tuesday afternoon at the Cajundome amid uncertainty about the school’s future, with board officials (following a recent court battle) planning to close it after this school year or the next. News 15
- ➤ Courtney Alleman has been named principal of Charles Burke Elementary School by the Lafayette Parish School System after Brandon Bonner was appointed principal at Judice Middle School. - ➤ The Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources advises residents to set thermostats to 78°F at home and 85°F when away to lower summer electric bills in our hot, humid climate. They may lower settings to 74 (or 76) at night for added comfort. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ The Lafayette City Zoning Commission rejected an alcohol permit for Ash 2 Ash Cigar Bar on Monday after neighbors opposed the plan+one of the owners had a similar setback with a daiquiri bar effort downtown. News 15
- ➤ Lafayette Parish Library officials said at a Monday meeting that if voters reject the property tax renewal on the December ballot (which funds 65% of operations), the library will trim hours, reduce staff and may close branches to cover a nearly $9M annual gap. The Advocate

- ➤ Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital will offer free heart health screenings on May 30 for adults 45 and older (or those with risk factors) from 8 a.m. to noon at 1105 Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette. News 15
