ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A dump truck driver was hospitalized after his truck lost control and hit a utility pole on (US 167) between Lafayette and Maurice on May 26th before 3 p.m.  News 15
  • Traffic on eastbound I-10 near Duson was blocked when a crash occurred at the Austria Road exit at mile 92 at 3:17 a.m. yesterday — DOTD confirmed the highway was reopened by 7:48 a.m.  KLFY
  • I-10 East is closed at the LA 95 exit near Duson because of a crash between Duson and Scott — DOTD officials are diverting traffic to US 90 while investigating the accident and have not confirmed any injuries.  News 15

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Former nurse Jodi Taylor opened Morain Coffee Co. at 2424 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy on May 15, offering homemade treats, including popular cinnamon roll biscuits and Cajun-inspired dishes, while two of her sons work at the cafe. She plans to expand the business soon to create a lasting family legacy as she nears retirement.  The Daily Advertiser

CULTURE NEWS

  • A list of Juneteenth events in Acadiana celebrates African American heritage; in Iberia Parish, Shadows-on-the-Teche will host a free performance of Zebulon’s Dream on June 19 at the Shadows Visitor Center—while in Lafayette Parish, the SWLA Juneteenth Committee has planned events from June 2 through June 21 at local sites such as City Hall, Downtown Convention Center and Historic Heymann Park.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Storage Center is accepting applications for its Space to Succeed Scholarship that will award three $5,000 scholarships to college students who show leadership and community service. Eligible students 18 or older and enrolled in college for Fall 2025 must submit a 500- to 800-word essay and a photo by May 31 (deadline).  KATC
