  • Lafayette offers residents free splash pads at parks like Moncus Park, Girard Park and Parc Lafayette as well as affordable access to public pools including Martin Luther King Pool and Girard Park Pool — some openings have been postponed due to repairs and weather checks to ensure safety.  The Daily Advertiser

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Memorial Day morning, state police reported a multi-vehicle crash on I-10 east near Scott that killed a Dodge Charger driver and injured two others — I-10 east was closed near Duson for several hours before reopening around 7:30 a.m.  News 15

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Coffeeweed Cottage, a much-loved coffee shop at Simcoe Street and Poydras Street, is facing likely closure as owner Denise Champagne struggles with running a small business as a single mother. The shop will stay open until a new buyer is found—Champagne hopes the new owner will invest in the community.  News 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holy Family Catholic School in Lafayette honored retiring principal Rogers Griffin after 26 years of leading the school through a turnaround that increased enrollment from 75 to over 300 students—leaving his legacy for new principal Loretta Williams-Durand. Community members and staff celebrated his work with a heartfelt sendoff during a celebratory parade.  KATC

  • Lafayette officials launched LafayetteNOW, a modern emergency alert system that will send severe weather, traffic, and public safety updates directly to devices — ensuring residents get timely notifications. Residents may sign up for the free service by texting JOIN LFTALERT to 31002 — a tool designed to keep the community prepared during emergencies.  KATC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Daily Advertiser released its 2025 All-Metro Baseball teams as the season wrapped up this month in Lafayette Parish and surrounding areas. Evan Vincent was named most valuable pitcher, Cade Wilkerson most valuable hitter, and Brooks Badeaux earned Coach of the Year—honors given after top 337 teams earned state titles and strong playoff showings.  The Daily Advertiser
