  • Ground Force Humanitarian Aid helps local emergency managers connect with supplies via its new website Through Stability — the nonprofit partners with the Walmart Foundation and coordinates daily planning calls to support vulnerable residents during storms.  KATC
  • Moncus Park announced Wednesday its summer schedule of free events from June to August at its 100-acre park in Lafayette. The season features four Thursday nights of live music, a Father’s Day pop-up, National Food Truck Day and 50 programs, along with an expanded parking lot & daily food trucks.  KATC
  • NEWS 15 and Doran and Cawthorne Attorneys at Law recognized Pay It Forward as the May nonprofit of the month on May 28. The organization uses social media to help Acadiana residents facing homelessness.  News 15

  • Kim Smith, an Acadiana mother, recalled her son's near-fatal ATV crash in 2005 as a cautionary tale when a teen was seriously injured Tuesday in Lewisburg after his ATV was hit by a car.  News 15

  • Ben Johnson saw a blinking machine in his father’s tech shop and started Techneaux Technology Services – a local industrial automation and IT company – in Lafayette. He began the business in his garage and credits his dedicated team for helping it grow.  KATC

  • Acadiana's 2026 Independence Day events include City of Scott’s celebration on June 26, Youngsville’s free Red, White & Boom on July 3 at the Sports Complex Amphitheater, a downtown July 4 play at Cité des Arts, and an Erath street fair.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Researchers at UL Lafayette tested campus live oak trees and found record-low carbon levels — a discovery that offers fresh insight on how rising CO2 may be altering plant chemistry over time.  KATC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters warn that warm Gulf waters may support a tropical storm forming next week. Rain is already falling along parts of Louisiana and Florida (strong wind shear keeps the chance low) as experts monitor the conditions closely.  The Daily Advertiser

HEALTH NEWS

  • Veterinarian Dusty Andressen of Lafayette Veterinary Care Center advises pet owners to prepare their pets for hurricanes by keeping medical records, medications & their regular diet to prevent travel-related upset. He also recommends staying indoors after a storm to avoid floodwater toxins.  KATC
  • The Louisiana Department of Health is issuing SUN Bucks to children eligible for free school meals, adding $120 to their EBT cards between May 27 and June 2. Families already receiving benefits will get it automatically & others may apply through official channels.  KATC

  • Jerome Moroux and his wife Ashley bought the 15,000 sqft former Guaranty Bank building at 500 Jefferson St. for $2.6 million last week. Built in 1905 with a domed pavilion entrance and original vault, the building is in excellent shape with no new plans.  The Advocate
