  • Community members gathered in Lafayette on Saturday to celebrate 25 years of Miles Perret Cancer Services—known for helping thousands of families—and to kick off the Games of Acadiana fundraiser running from May 30 to June 14. The event honored the nonprofit’s roots and its ongoing support for cancer patients without government funding.  KATC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three Lafayette Parish firefighters were injured while fighting two separate house fires in Carencro on May 30 — one fire at 107 Hidden Oaks Drive started before 9 p.m. when a vehicle fire spread to the attic and a second at 2714 Gendarme Road injured a Lafayette firefighter when a ceiling collapsed.  News 15

  • Edie's Biscuits in Lafayette celebrated 36 years of serving its iconic biscuits on Friday, May 30—owner Stanley Leece marked his birthday while honoring a treasured family recipe. The restaurant, named for Leece's oldest sister, has drawn locals since it opened in 1989.  News 15

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local seafood experts and state officials expanded Grand Isle’s off-bottom oyster farming with a $140,000 grant to help bring fresh oysters to New Orleans restaurants and keep local traditions alive — producers plan to double the aquaculture park and open a processing facility by year-end to meet growing demand. This new method uses floating cages and lab-grown seed oysters to adapt to coastal changes and revive the island’s heritage.  The Advocate

  • Adam Zane, a KLFY News 10 reporter, made his wrestling debut Saturday at LWA’s Heartland Heat at the Cajundome Convention Center and won his match against Masked Grappler III with help from his surprise ally—Bob Moore, who delivered the decisive three-count. LWA management announced that Zane and Moore will face Masked Grappler III again in July at The Pit inside Epic Entertainment.  KLFY
