EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Maraist Family Foundation will donate $105,000 to Love Our Schools at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the Community Foundation of Acadiana to honor late Mike Maraist and his work in education. The donation, raised by the first Mike Maraist Memorial Invitational golf tournament at Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club, will support school programs — his vision lives on — and help local students. - ➤ Broussard officials will move city hall and services from 310 East Main St to a new location at 406 East Madison St to consolidate operations as the city outgrows its current space. The $3.6 million deal covers a 3.6-acre property with three buildings — offering more space and parking for city employees — and will support the city's long-term growth. The Advocate
- ➤ Louisiana House members led by Rep. Julie Emerson passed bills to cut income and sales taxes in early May, but the Senate shelved the proposals on Sunday after economists revealed they would create a $142 million shortfall in 2027 and a $590 million gap in 2028.
