COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Second Harvest Food Bank announced it is joining the 2025 Summer Food Service Program to offer free meals to eligible children in Acadiana this summer—meals will be served at multiple Lafayette locations such as the Public Library and Bridge Ministries from June 2 until August 1 with set schedules and closed dates. The program follows USDA guidelines to ensure every child receives nourishment without discrimination.  News 15

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three firefighters were injured when two separate house fires broke out in Carencro on May 30 and May 31 — one fire started at 107 Hidden Oaks Drive from a vehicle fire and spread to the attic while the other began at 2714 Gendarme Road from an overloaded surge protector that destroyed homes.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Robert Judge— a library board member— faces an ethics complaint after he allegedly used his influence at a May 19 meeting to block discussion on a proposed federal lawsuit settlement that would have financially benefited him. Margaret Oeklers filed the complaint with the Ethics Administration and officials are reviewing his conduct after he created a GoFundMe account to raise funds for his legal fees.  The Advocate
  • City Council will vote again on the road swaps that let Lafayette take control of parts of Johnston Street and Bertrand Drive—roads required for LCG’s plans to remove old utilities and add sidewalks connecting Moncus Park to the Cajundome. Some council members had raised concerns—especially about the exchange of control for a portion of Ambassador Caffery Parkway.  The Current

  • Lafayette native Ian Montz played every game for LSU Shreveport’s perfect 59-0 season and helped the team win the NAIA World Series by hitting a key home run and earning All-Tournament Team honors.
