- ➤ Downtown Lafayette will host a Fourth of July celebration at Parc International on July 4 — gates open at 5 p.m. and fireworks light the sky at 9 p.m. The free event will also feature live music, food trucks, and family activities. The Daily Advertiser
- ➤ Membership registration is open for Krewe de Acadian in Broussard—registration will close on July 31 and those interested can email [email protected] for details. The krewe, founded in 2023 to boost local community spirit, hosts events such as a Mardi Gras Ball, a health fair, and a hamburger cookoff festival that benefits local police and fire departments. - ➤ A 6-year-old child fighting for his life after being stabbed on Sunday while also battling a brain tumor was airlifted from Opelousas General to a Baton Rouge hospital—Patrick Seth Greene, a teacher and coach on leave, is held without bail and faces multiple charges including domestic abuse battery with child endangerment. - ➤ Construction crews are working on a $4 million expansion at First Baptist Christian School that will transform the former Davidson Meaux law office into a 16,500-square-foot Upper School and College Ministry building at the corner of South Buchanan and West Main streets. School tours will begin this fall — and students are expected to start classes in the new facility by January. KATC
- ➤ State officials said Bosco Oilfield Services — hired for drainage work at Charles Burke Elementary — was found unlicensed and had won a $124,500 contract with forged bid documents. The Lafayette Parish School System began an internal investigation and will refer its findings to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor if the issues are confirmed. KATC

- ➤ The National Hurricane Center detected tropical activity off Florida’s coast that may signal an active hurricane season for Louisiana following the June 1 start. Experts said warm water, weak winds and Sahara dust — which can slow storm growth — are being monitored as the season moves forward. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ Gov. Landry and state emergency management leaders met to review preparations for hurricane season as forecasters monitor a tropical storm that could affect the Southeast Coast—he urged residents to prepare for natural disasters. News 15
- ➤ Robert Judge, a member of the Lafayette Public Library Board of Control, faces an ethics complaint for persuading the board to skip discussing settlement of a federal lawsuit against him and for soliciting online donations to pay his legal fees—Margaret Oelkers filed the complaint by email Friday with the Louisiana Ethics Administration. The complaint alleges that Judge used his position at a May 19 board meeting to influence members for his financial benefit. KATC
