BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jude David, managing partner of Final Ascent, said many Lafayette business owners delay planning their exit as the process is emotional—he compared it to end-of-life planning. He explained that incorporating philanthropic giving into a transition can reduce taxes and support charitable causes.  The Advocate
  • KADN will bring back Scott Brazda and Al Hebert to restart its Good Day Acadiana program at 6 a.m. June 23 as part of a larger staff return — including two new meteorologists and four other former employees— while the station’s owner is up for sale.  The Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • Scott Police said a fight at a nightclub turned into a shooting at a nearby gas station on the 200 block of N. Ambassador Caffery—20-year-old Kylon Calais died from his wounds while another person was injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition.  The Advocate
  • Police arrested Andrew Morrison, 47, of Eunice last Sunday after he escaped custody from Acadian Medical Center in May 2024—officers received an anonymous tip, stopped his vehicle when he attempted to flee, and after a brief chase he was found with illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia and booked on charges including aggravated flight and drug offenses.  KLFY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gov. Jeff Landry signed Senate Bill 232 — now Act 44 — to update film tax credit rules that let Louisiana respond faster to film trends. The law keeps a $125 million yearly cap and a 2031 stop date while aiming to boost local jobs and small businesses.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In Louisiana, fireworks will be on sale from noon on June 16 until midnight on July 5 and may be used between June 25 and July 5 but are banned between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.—local laws bar fireworks near churches, schools, hospitals, and public buildings— and types like cherry bombs and tubular salutes are illegal.  The Daily Advertiser

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In May 2025, real estate data for Youngsville and Broussard showed that average sold prices fell—dropping from $372,343 to $330,586 in Youngsville and from $336,205 to $317,326 in Broussard—while the number of properties sold stayed steady. Youngsville added a few listings and saw a longer time on market, whereas Broussard had faster sales, which may give buyers more room to negotiate.  BY Local News

  • UL softball coach Alyson Habetz announced the team signed its first transfer, Kennedy Marceaux, a former Alabama infielder (Kaplan native) expected to boost the offense as part of a rebuild. Marceaux, named Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year (2024) and a top performer last season, will join the team as an incoming sophomore ahead of the 2026 season.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Malik Nabers returned this weekend to Acadiana to honor his late grandfather by hosting a football camp for around 1,000 kids; organizers expanded the camp to two days at separate facilities—paying tribute to his grandfather’s community impact.  News 15
