CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A reported bomb threat at Lafayette Regional Airport caused an evacuation of part of the terminal and flight delays, and three people were taken into custody — law enforcement later confirmed the suspicious package was not hazardous as operations resumed. News 15
- ➤ Authorities charged Lafayette man Reginald Bernard, 43, with second degree murder and several drug offenses in connection with the March overdose death of a 29-year-old woman after narcotics agents stopped him on N. Beadle Road—agents seized 28 grams of heroin/fentanyl and a search of his residence found methamphetamine, marijuana, and $7,500 in cash. KLFY

- ➤ Lafayette High School senior Isabella Anderson received the CODOFIL Award for Excellence in French—which includes a scholarship to help with her college studies—and she will attend Georgetown University this fall after a 13-year journey in the French Immersion Program that began in kindergarten. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Asian needle ants are venomous insects that give a painful sting and can be dangerous for people with allergies—officials note that while the ants have been seen in nearby states like Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas, they have not been found in Louisiana yet. Experts say the ants will be hardest to spot in July and August—so residents should take care when working around gardens or mulch. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ On Monday, the Louisiana Senate approved a revised state budget that added at least $1.2 billion from the Revenue Stabilization Trust Fund for one-time projects such as transportation, water system upgrades, and higher education improvements— the bill now returns to the House for further negotiations before the legislative session ends on Thursday.
