ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 3242 near Breaux Road on June 11 at 11:30 p.m.—58-year-old Barry Boullion, unrestrained in his 2016 Honda CRV, lost control on a right curve and died at the scene as toxicology tests are pending.  KATC

CRIME NEWS

  • Gilbert Joseph from Crowley was sentenced to 13 years in prison for his role in a meth scheme after deputies found suspicious UPS packages sent to a local address — his co-defendant Ronaldo Coleman received 10 years and both will serve 5 years of supervised release.  KATC
  • Federal law enforcement detained five workers on Thursday at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center after routine background checks revealed they were in the country without proper legal documentation — Homeland Security Investigations has launched a federal probe and the sheriff said his office remains focused on the facility’s security.  KATC
  • St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested Jared Eugene Wells—23—for second degree murder and failure to render aid after linking him to a Jennings Road shooting on June 11 that killed 54-year-old David Joachain.  KATC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nancy Brewer left her fine dining job in New York to return to Louisiana and launch The Kitchen Shop in Grand Coteau, a bakery inspired by childhood memories of sweet dough pies and family tradition—her pop-up grew into a business with strong family support. She says baking is a way of sharing love and honoring her past—her work keeps her grandmother’s legacy alive in each pie.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Staff Sgt. Logan Meaux from Maurice led a crisis training exercise at Fort Cavazos, Texas on May 16 where he helped his unit extract a role player simulating stranded personnel — his actions earned him Task Force Bandit’s Soldier of the Month. He also works as a sheriff’s deputy and guided his team as they prepared for an upcoming KFOR deployment.  KATC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Broussard Fire Dept, Our Lady of Lourdes, and the city are hosting a blood drive—running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1210 Albertson Parkway—to help Chief Glen Cormier, a Duson firefighter battling pancreatic cancer after nearly 50 years of service. Donations will help cover his treatment costs and ease his medical bills during this difficult time.  KATC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Danieca Coffey and Ali Newland made their professional debut for the Volts on June 7 at McMurry Park in Sulphur as hundreds of fans cheered the first Athletes Unlimited Softball League game in Louisiana. The former LSU players showed strong hitting—Coffey went 3-for-3—and aim to inspire young softball fans in the state.  The Daily Advertiser
