  • Lafayette Habitat for Humanity will benefit from Zydeco Rhythms for a Reason when Geno Delafose performs live on June 28 at the ReStore on Northeast Evangeline Thruway from noon until 3 p.m.—local businesses and food trucks are invited to join the event as donations help build affordable homes in the area.  KATC
  • Lafayette assistant principal Jenaye Kimbrough will have a new roof installed at her home as part of Pelican Roofing's annual Mother's Day Roof Giveaway—installation will begin when weather permits.  News 15

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Sunset Police Chief Luis Padilla was sentenced on June 17th after pleading guilty for twisting the thumb and wrist of a handcuffed man in December 2023 — he received five years of supervised probation with the first six months under home incarceration with GPS monitoring, and a hearing for restitution is set for Aug. 26.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lafayette Public Library launched its 'Color Our World' summer reading challenge at all branches and invites children, teens and adults to read 20 minutes a day until July 31. Those who read for 30 days earn a prize pack—while reading for 50 days earns an extra reward and an additional entry to win a grand prize.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Board of Ethics filed charges against Lafayette volleyball coaches Julia Dawson and Erin Belsom for urging Southside High students to enroll and pay for summer training at LVL—Dawson is accused of coercing students to join the league. A hearing before the administrative law panel is set for Nov. 13 and both coaches’ attorney calls the charges baseless.  The Advocate
  • Lafayette Consolidated Government secured nearly $7.9M in state funding and passed new laws—streamlining dangerous property removal and modernizing police promotions—that boosted local growth and public safety after the 2025 legislative session ended on June 18th.  City of Lafayette
