- ➤ Lafayette Fire Department Captain Coby Bailey, whose cooking YouTube channel grew from 800 to over 12,000 subscribers in five years, has been invited to compete on PBS’s six-episode elimination series — The Great American Recipe. The show will premiere on July 11 and will have him racing against other top chefs. News 15
- ➤ An expo at the Downtown Convention Center will take place this weekend to help Lafayette residents learn how to stay safe during hurricanes and other disasters — the free event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It offers food, drinks, and a panel discussion with local experts who will share key preparedness tips. KATC

- ➤ Lafayette police are investigating a double shooting that happened outside the Super 1 Foods parking lot on West Willow Street—one victim has been released while the other remains hospitalized and the shooters have not been identified. News 15
- ➤ A Lafayette Parish grand jury issued a superseding indictment in the 2022 slaying of Mary Elizabeth Faulk by charging Jason D. Provost Sr., 43, with manslaughter—replacing his second-degree murder charge while keeping a firearm possession charge and noting he was set to plead or go to trial in September. KATC

- ➤ Parts of Acadiana are facing water troubles as a boil water advisory affects Delcambre residents on North Central Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive due to needed water line repairs—the Franklin Water System in Iberia Parish repeatedly exceeded safe turbidity limits from November through March and failed to report the violations on time. - ➤ Chief Paul Trouard said the Lafayette Police Department hired 43 officers since May 2024 to boost staffing toward the 301 active officer target. He explained the hiring process received two applicants per vacancy and nearly 100 candidates for an eight-person cadet class—only three of whom graduated. The Current
- ➤ Louisiana attorney general Liz Murrill warned residents that over 40 online casino and sweepstakes sites received cease and desist letters for operating illegally—offering real money games that target local players. Gov. Jeff Landry said the Louisiana Gaming Control Board will take further steps to enforce state gaming laws and protect consumers. KLFY
- ➤ Attorney General Liz Murrill said Louisiana will receive $69 million from a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and Sackler family members — the funds will be distributed to parishes through the Opioid Abatement Trust over the next 15 years.
