  • The Glenn Armentor Law Corporation named the DesOrmeaux Foundation the Non-Profit of the Month for June and awarded it a $500 check—recognizing its 25 years of work helping pregnant women in need in Lafayette. The foundation, which includes the Women’s Center of Lafayette, offers services like pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, housing, and information on adoption.  News 15

CULTURE NEWS

  • Al Berard Teaches Cajun Fiddle for Beginners was released for free on YouTube today to honor what would have been the Cajun musician's 65th birthday and showcase his teaching legacy; his family said the series supports the Al Berard Memorial Music Fund + preserves Louisiana’s rich musical tradition.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lafayette Parish School System closed a $61.5 million bond sale in New Orleans this week to fund expansions and renovations at Judice Middle, Acadiana High and L.J. Alleman Middle Schools. The bonds drew high demand — letting the board reserve funds for capital projects and set construction with J.B. Mouton, with work expected to finish from spring to spring.  News 15

  • Lafayette was named as one of 50 global finalists in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ 2025 Mayors Challenge for its plan to fix aging sewer pipes through a public—private partnership that repairs laterals at no cost to property owners. The city will receive $50,000 to prototype its solution and join a global Ideas Camp in July to refine its innovative approach.  City of Lafayette

  • LDH confirmed Louisiana's first human case of West Nile virus for the 2025 mosquito season in an individual from Livingston Parish who was hospitalized for complications. The department warns everyone to protect themselves from mosquito bites—using repellent and removing standing water are key prevention steps.  KATC
