- ➤ St. Landry Parish farmer Courtney Gerace, 34, runs a Melville farm growing sugarcane and raising cattle while homeschooling her five children and won the Louisiana Farm Bureau’s Outstanding Young Farm Woman award today — she received prize money, a leadership conference trip and additional awards as she serves on local Farm Bureau committees. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chad Credeur, 43, of Duson, was deemed competent to stand trial for the triple murder of Brandon Touchet, Elizabeth Reames and Eric Green in Lafayette, with his trial set for July 14 and a potential life sentence if convicted—he pleaded not guilty and prosecutors will not seek the death penalty. - ➤ The Louisiana Department of Education announced a one-point gain in LEAP scores with 35% of grades 3-8 reaching Mastery + Lafayette Parish moved into the state’s top 10 at 43% while math proficiency improved by two points, with Vermilion scoring 45%, though high school scores did not change.
