CRIME NEWS

  • A nursing home in Rayne was evacuated on Jul 17 after a bomb threat was received at 9:21 a.m. and police began investigating the incident — no further details have been released.  KLFY
  • Franklin police and Lafayette officers arrested Tate Foco, 19, on July 16 in connection with shots fired on Iberia Street on March 8 & he faces charges for attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated criminal damage, & illegal use of weapons.  News 15

  • Lafayette native Vinayak Chaturvedi will present his free, Chopin-inspired concert, The River of Chopin, on July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Northwood United Methodist Church on Moss St—he returns home with gratitude after years of performing abroad.  The Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lafayette tourism officials voted to start talks with ULL to buy land at the corner of Cajundome Boulevard and West Congress Street to build a 150,000 square foot indoor sports complex that will have 10 basketball courts and 20 volleyball courts. The project is estimated to cost $35—40 million and will be funded by a 2% tourism improvement tax collected from local hotels, which is expected to bring 140,000 visitors and 30,000 hotel room stays each year.  The Advocate
