COMMUNITY NEWS

  • TikTok influencer Mr. ChimeTime visited Lafayette’s JB’s Cruisin’ Cuisine and called its smothered ribs sensational—he also praised the red beans and rice for their bold, spicy flavor. Food truck owner Jabarik Sebille said he challenged Mr. ChimeTime to try his food and will offer a free meal for the first 100 customers this Thursday from 3 p.m.  The Daily Advertiser

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Organizers will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 5 p.m. on July 30 for the $19 million Hotel Lafayette at the corner of Taylor and Vermilion in downtown Lafayette— a joint project by Sans Souci Properties, The Thrash Group and Tandem Hospitality Group— as work may begin this month on the 82-room hotel. The new hotel will include a 4,500-square-foot Bayou Teche Brewery event space— which is expected to host local events— that could open by mid-2026.  The Advocate

  • Funky Wolf is a new art studio and community space in Lafayette that opened in April at 3124 Johnston St. by husband and wife Christy and Khalid Aldiyktatur, who show bold paintings and heartfelt poetry while inviting local artists to work and share ideas in a fun and honest setting—mixing real art with fresh creative energy.  The Daily Advertiser

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The UL Men's Basketball Team helped Lafayette Elementary on Monday during Love Our Schools Serve Day by cleaning classrooms and organizing supplies to ready the school for students returning in August—supporting its shift into a newly repurposed building. Community partners like Love Our Schools and the Lafayette Animal Shelter also joined the effort to create a welcoming space for the students.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lafayette Consolidated Government announced that starting tomorrow, nightly alternating lane closures will occur on University Avenue between Cameron Street (US 90) and I-10 for pavement and striping modifications under the University Avenue Corridor Project. The closures will continue through Spring 2026 and prohibit left turns at median sections as the contractor begins Phase II work.  KLFY
  • Today, nightly lane closures begin on University Avenue between Cameron Street and I-10 as part of the University Avenue Corridor Project — closures expected to last through Spring will restrict left turns so drivers must plan extra travel time — affecting traffic patterns in Lafayette.  News 15

HEALTH NEWS

  • Albertsons announced a recall of ten tuna salad products in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma—these items, made by Oregon-based Reser's Fine Foods, may be contaminated with listeria. Customers should return the recalled products for a full refund—store staff advise cleaning all surfaces that contacted the item to prevent cross-contamination.  KLFY
  • Acadiana doctors are seeing more teens with prediabetes, a condition that can lead to type 2 diabetes if not treated. Dr. Cassandra Pillette says teens can reverse this problem by eating better, exercising more, and getting enough sleep — steps that may help manage the condition.  KATC
