COMMUNITY NEWS

  • LASCC and FLASh installed free pet microchip scanning stations in three public parking lots in Lafayette Parish to help reunite lost pets with their owners, with scanners available at the Animal Shelter on 410 N Dugas Rd, the Police Department on 900 E University Ave, and Youngsville Police Department on 311 Lafayette St. LASCC now offers $15 microchips during weekday business hours and will hold a Saturday Microchip Clinic on September 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. to boost reunification efforts.  City of Lafayette
  • Residents at Potpourri Village say a water leak has flooded yards for six to eight months and attracted pests such as snakes, mosquitoes, and water moccasins—heavy rains worsen the problem. The Lafayette Parish Water Works District North confirmed the leak is on their system and said repairs cannot start until the area dries.  KLFY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bistrology, a Latin-owned brunch and coffee brand, will soon open in Lafayette at the old Chili’s on Ambassador Caffery Drive, which is being updated with a jungle look and a new open-air patio. The restaurant will serve classic and Latin-fusion dishes and be the brand’s first in Louisiana—its third location overall.  KATC

  • The Inaugural Acadiana Pirate Festival will take place at the legendary Sidecar in Lafayette on Saturday, July 26 — the event will feature pirate music and a Hawaiian pig roast.  News 15

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scorching heat in Acadiana is straining air conditioning units as daily highs in the 90s and triple-digit heat indices spike service calls. Technician Jack Patterson of Butcher Air Conditioning and Alex Camel advise checking attic insulation and cleaning filters—simple steps that may help units run better.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • LPSS maintenance manager John Young came under neighbor scrutiny after they saw him using his work truck for personal tasks with a Bosco-labeled trailer—raising questions about his ties to his former employer. LPSS officials said the arrangement was allowed to meet urgent repair needs before school began.  The Current
  • Governor Jeff Landry said the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project was cancelled on July 17 because it is not financially or practically viable—he noted that the project threatens Louisiana’s seafood and coastal culture. He said @LouisianaCPRA will now move forward with a new coastal restoration plan that balances environmental goals with the needs of fishermen and local industries.  KLFY
