- ➤ Noel's Barber Lounge in Lafayette will host a back-to-school event on August 10 that offers free haircuts—along with school supplies, food and fun activities—for students to boost their confidence for the new school year. KATC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jurassic Quest is starting today and will run through Sunday at the Cajundome to give children a chance to see and interact with lifelike dinosaurs. A preview event featured baby dinosaurs, and dino trainer Suave said the show sparks creativity — fueling local learning. News 15
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette High School is now open with a new 300,000 square foot facility filled with modern technology and resources after four years of planning and construction. Teachers will tour the building and begin moving in next week while demolition of the old building starts—clearing space for a new parking lot and football practice field. KLFY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette Consolidated Government broke ground on a $5 million streetscape project at 12th and Surrey Streets in the McComb-Veazey neighborhood — saw-cutting and pavement removal have begun from Plum Street to Crocket Street. The project will add new sidewalks, stamped brick crosswalks and upgraded bus stops to boost pedestrian safety and will finish in about 18 months. City of Lafayette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Emmy Quebedeaux, a 5-year-old girl from Lafayette who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, visited Disney World this summer through a partnership between the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Halliburton after being cancer-free since November. Her family celebrated her recovery—she now begins kindergarten while managing side effects from chemotherapy, including hearing loss and gastroparesis. The Advocate
